A Talk with Dr. Hossein
Khatibi,
the previous general manager of the Red Lion and Sun
Association and Vice President of National Consultative
Assembly
I, accurately
remember that on August 29th 1947 Dr. Moazzami
suggested to me to attend the meeting of the previous Red
Lion and Sun Association. The story was that the involved
people in this association, in order to find incomes for
it, had decided to determine and announce a day as thd day
of the Red Lion and Sun for gathering relief funds. One of
the persons whom they invited for consultation was Dr.
Moazzami. He had said “I am too busy but I know someone
who can help you” then he took me to the meeting with
himself. As I remember, Dr. Amir Alam, Dr. Hassan Adham
(Hakim-od-Dowleh), Sadegh Vassighi, Dr. Abbas Nafisi and
Dr. Ismael Marzban who all were the members of the
managing board, attended this meeting. Besides, Mirza
Abolfazl Khan Bahrami, the previous mayor of Tehran had
been invited to this session and he brought with himself
Dr. Ali Farahmandi who was the general manager of the
culture ministry.
At that time, the
income of the Red Lion and Sun Association was 10,000
tomans which was paid by the previous National Oil Company
to it as relief fund and a little membership’s right which
was not notable. In this meeting, it was decided that I
and Dr, Farahmandi should draw up the program of that week
of the Red Lion and Sun and to put it into force with our
responsibility. I remember that we prepared a very
detailed program and suggested various ways for gathering
relief funds which were approved.
Anyway, that week
was held up properly and I remember that we gathered
600,000 tomans which was a notable sum at that time. This
figure was about fourfold to the annual income of the
association.
After the end of
the measure and submission of its report, since both of us
fullfilled our duties, we asked permission for withdrawing
but the board of members insisted us to continue our
cooperation with them and for this reason we remained in
that office.
I was appointed as
the president of the propaganda’s department of the
association and Dr. Farahmandi as the manager of
administtative affairs and namely, we both became members
of the board of directors of the association. The year
1947 ended and in the beginning of the year 1948 that the
elections of board of directors renewed, Dr. Farahmandi
was elected as general manager and I continued my work in
the previous office and the remaining members of the
board were Dr. Amir Alam who in fact was the founder of
this association and Dr. Hassan Adham who became the vice
president of it. Sadegh vassighi was elected as treasurer
and Dr. Abbas Nafisi was chief secretary of the
association.
