The Necessity of Considering the Secret Role of Freemasonry in the
 Changes of Iran's Contemporary History

For several reasons the Qajar period has a great importance in Iranian contemporary history, the most important of which is the close relations of Iran with western countries. The dependence course of Iran's society to the west was intensified by entering the first group of Iranians to the Freemasonry assemblies which was primarily confined to the ambassadors and students who were sent to Europe and gradually it obtained more extensive aspects by extending of freemasonry's lodges' sections and increasing the number of its members who were mainly chosen among the political, economic and social influential classes.

 The freemasonary is one of the effective factors in transformations that must be properly studied beside the other factors. On not paying sufficient attention to the freemasonry role in the changes of contemporary history, the following explanation are usually set forth:
A) The shortage of documents and information.
B) Underestimating the case. A number of people who are chiefly mason or have no precise information about the character of this group, believe or pretend that the freemasonry is principally a moral movement and has no political ground. The purpose of this group in proposing of such a viewpoint is to underestimate the freemasonry's part in the transformations of contemporary history and they refuse any discussion in this ground by the same motive.
Asgar Khan AfsharRoomi has been named in sources as the first Iranian freemason. While proceeding a political mission to gain Napoleon's support of Iran's interests during the Irano-Russ wars, he was hunted in France by the English spies and became a member of freemasonry lodge of the order of Paris.
The freemasonry lodge of Malkom was closed in 1899 by the order of Nasseraddin Shah after four years of activity and membership of considerable number of the court men and influential people in the circle of freemasonry. In its administration of the country the Bidari lodge was being also assisted by the France Orrian grand lodge. The main purpose of this article is to attract the attention of researchers of Iran's Contemporary History to one those serious phenomena that unfortunately has been no more favoured and it is worthy to shed light to some of Iran's contemporary history's ambiguities by a new look to this matter.
